Types of Kinesiology

 

Flexion - to decrease angle between two bones

Extension - to increase angle between two bones

Hyper-Extension - lengthens past anatomical position-behind back

Abduction - to move away from mid-line (Lateral)

Adduction - to move toward the mid-line (Medial)

 

 

 

 

Rotation - to pivot around own axis

Circumduction - to trace a cirlce, a combination of flexion, extension, abduction, adduction and rotation

Supination - to rotate forearm outward

Pronation - to rotate forearm inward

Inversion - to turn sole of foot inward

Eversion - to turn sole of foot outward

Dorsi-Flexion - to move foot toward shin

Plantar-Flexion - to move foot away from shin
